Your Cheating Heart

The other day, former General Dave Petraeus, generally seen as the face of the second Iraq war and the current head of the CIA, resigned out of the blue. A short time later it was revealed that the reason for his resignation was evidence that he had been having an affair with the woman who had written his biography. Now, 95% of the time I believe that what happens between the people involved in these kinds of situations should stay between them. After all, while it may be immoral to cheat on a spouse, it isn't actually illegal. But, seeing how this guy is supposed to be in charge of keeping some of the most important secrets in the entire world, a lapse in judgement of this kind is probably grounds for termination. But my main emotion in reading this story is amusement, because the affair was uncovered only after the mistress allegedly tried to hack into the Petraeus's email because she was worried he may have been cheating on her with yet another woman. (This is the part where I point out that you reap what you sow.) You would think she would have known the head of the CIA's email is likely monitored pretty well, but apparently she thought she was slicker than one of the world's best intelligence gathering industries. It's nice to know that no matter how old people get, we really never leave high school.
